Women in Super workshop

Women in Super workshop

25 - 26 September 2024 | Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva, Fiji

  1. Background

The Pacific Islands Investment Forum (PIIF) is undertaking three special projects to support member Funds and address larger regional or international issues. The Women in Super special project was established in 2022 and is supported by the PIIF Women in Super working group which is comprised of representatives of member funds. The project is being supported by the Pacific Private Sector Development Initiative (PSDI).

At the 2023 PIIF CEO Forum Annual General Meeting (AGM), members passed three resolutions to progress the Women in Super project:

  • 1a: All members collect the following six gender-disaggregated datasets as part of the PIIF minimum standards.

  • 1b: PIIF members commit to including these datasets in annual reports from 2024 onwards.

  • 2: The Women in Super working group will bring together Forum members targeting the informal sector as a subgroup to collate data and good practice on engaging the informal sector for sharing with interested members.

  • 3: PIIF members commit to undertaking a financial literacy program that meets the needs of members.

The Women in Super working group has developed a draft guidance manual for use by PIIF members to support the implementation of endorsed resolutions. The manual provides step-by-step guidance to help achieve the resolutions presented at the PIIF CEO Forum AGM in 2023.

On 13 June 2024, the PIIF Board endorsed a proposal to host a dedicated two-day Women in Super workshop with each PIIF member required to identify and fund at least one representative to attend the workshop. The workshop will be hosted by the Fiji National Provident Fund in partnership with PSDI.

2. Outcomes

The proposed workshop outcomes are to:

  • Finalise the PIIF Women in Super manual and train all fund reps in its content and use

  • Establish a Women in Super network across PIIF membership to further support collaboration and information sharing

  • Each participant to develop a tailored action plan for their fund to implement 2023 AGM resolutions

  • Develop a 12-month work plan for the Women in Super project including proposed governance structure and sustainability considerations for review/approval by the PIIF board at the PIIF CEO Forum.

3. Participation

The CEO is requested to identify at least one representative (man or woman) to participate in the training workshop. No prior experience working on the subject of women’s access to retirement funds is necessary but, ideally, participants would have some experience working in one of the following areas:

  • The collection and use of member data

  • Product development, voluntary contributions and/or engaging informal workers
